Using the 1.3b5 version of adium, all connection issues with using adium in SMU seems to have been solved. i am not sure if this is caused by the new OSX updates or something done internally on SMU's side but adium can be run without any tweaks or hacks in SMU!
I will confirm this when there is heavier network usage in school in the next few months.
Adium users rejoice

using 1.3b7 in smu - still erratic. =(
actually i kinda realised that its not 100% also
damn sad man….
i feel like logging the app and send the bug to adium or smu lol
could we take a look at the debug logs when it’s connecting and find out exactly where it’s failing? i’ll probably do that when i’m in school and try to make some sense… mine always gets stuck @ the authentication stage (50%) and ends with a “error on notification server: end of stream” error message.
adium probably tries to connect to a specific server, or port on that server for auth purposes and smu is blocking it somehow. but it’s all weird because other people using windows can connect without difficulty so adium must be connecting differently somehow.
okay i finally got adium to work consistently!! it has to do with our 802.1x implementations, and not smu blocking ports.
in the 802.1x tab under sys prefs -> network -> advanced, in the profile which u use to connect to wlan-student, untick all the authentication methods (leap, peap, etc etc) and tick ONLY PEAP.
save settings, disconnect and reconnect to wlan, and adium should work fine.
damn happy. can finally mug for 3b final exam in peace.
thanks man!
i have shared your discovery with the world
all the best for 3B!
haha i see you connected on WLAN-Student ahaha i am in school too!
I’m still having issues with adium 1.3b11 in SMU. It was working fine earlier today but now it refuses to log on.
I’ve already only selected the PEAP authentication.
i do have problems too periodically but its much better than last time. try reconnecting
